Pre-Hospital Paediatric Life Support (PHPLS)
The PHPLS course provides the knowledge and practical procedures necessary for effective treatment of childhood emergencies prior to hospital admission: major incident injury; life-threatening acute illnesses to which children with other underlying chronic diseases may be prone; he child suffering from the progressive effects of trauma. Prompt recognition and immediate effective treatment improves the life chances for these children.
Eligibility criteria
This course is suitable for professionals from a medical, paramedic or nursing background. Applicants must have active registration with the GMC, NMC or HCPC.
Awarding body recommended preparation time for this course is at least 4 weeks. If course placement is booked less than 4 weeks from the course date, it is done at the candidate’s/booker’s own risk.

Prior qualifications, training or experience required
Paediatric Basic Life Support is recommended.
Method of course delivery
The PHPLS course comprises online e-modules followed by a 2-day face-to-face course.
PHPLS Assesment and certification
Assessment takes place on day two of the course. If you are successful, PHPLS certification is valid for four years and includes access to ALSG’s VLE.
