The Generic Instructor Course (GIC) is a standardised national course teaching the principles of adult learning and is a joint collaboration between the Resuscitation Council (UK) and the Advanced Life Support Group (ALSG).

Who is the course for?

Any healthcare professional who have been recommended as having instructor potential (IP).

Eligibility criteria

Only candidates who have been recommended as having instructor potential (IP) from their provider course (e.g. ALS, NLS, APLS, MIMMS) can attend the GIC

Awarding body recommended preparation time for this course is at least 6 weeks. If course placement is booked less than 4 weeks from the course date, it is done at the candidate’s/booker’s own risk.

Prior qualifications, training or experience required

ALS, NLS, APLS or MIMMS training is required.

Method of course delivery

The GIC course is the equivalent to a 3-day course, 1 day of online e-learning modules PLUS 2 days face-to-face training.
