Anaphylaxis

Anaphylaxis is a severe and life-threatening allergic reaction that can be occur suddenly and develop quickly. Anaphylaxis can cause death if untreated properly. The most common anaphylactic reactions are to food, insect stings and some medications. If you are allergic to a substance, your immune system overreacts to this allergen by releasing chemicals that cause allergy symptoms.

It is important that those who care for others (such as first aid providers and health and social care workers) to be able to identify and treat anaphylaxis promptly and effectively.
