PLAB (Professional and Linguistic Assessments Board) is a medical licencing examination for overseas doctors (or international medical graduates) who wish to work as doctors in the UK. It is overseen by the General Medical Council, the medical licencing and regulatory authority in the UK.
There are two parts to the PLAB test. Part 1 is a written multiple choice exam, with 180 single best answer questions. Part 2 is a practical objective structured clinical exam, known as an OSCE. You’ll need to pass both parts before you can apply for registration with a licence to practise medicine in the UK. [Source: General Medical Council UK].
This section of our website is for the PLAB Part 1. If you are looking for Part 2, please click here.
In 2019, 64% of doctors passed the PLAB Part 1 Exam. This Intensive Preparation Course has therefore been created to support doctors who want to maximise their chances of passing the PLAB Part 1 exam. Our course is uniquely led by Consultants who are experts in their fields and experienced in supervising junior doctors. On the panel are also doctors who are extremely familiar with the way the PLAB exam works (having gone through the PLAB exam themselves). Our Intensive Preparation Course prepares you like no other. The material is carefully written and vetted by a specialist panel of doctors with a combined experience of over 1,000 years. You will therefore be extremely well supported and guided.
Before you book a PLAB Part 1 test you must have:
- An acceptable overseas primary medical qualification. For medical students, confirmation of a pass in the final qualifying exams is needed.
- The necessary knowledge of English.
Therefore, although anyone may undertake our PLAB Part 1 Intensive Preparation Course, we would particularly welcome those who meet the above entrance requirements to sit the PLAB Part 1 test.
If you are unsure about your eligibility, please contact the course administrator at email@example.com to discuss it further.
Prior qualifications, training or experience required
In addition to the above, as the PLAB is aimed to test the standard of knowledge and skill expected of a doctor entering Foundation Year 2 of training in the UK, we would suggest that this course is most suited to those who have completed at least their internship year after medical school.
