Adult and Paediatric Basic Life Support
Did you know that early resuscitation can improve survival rates by up to 60%?
This course is for anybody who wishes to feel more confident in dealing with a collapsed adult or child. It helps to develop life-saving skills which can keep a person alive until professional help arrives. These skills include: safe assessment of the collapsed individual, effective airway management (‘keeping the breathing passageways open’), and how to competently perform CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) if necessary.
Eligibility criteria
There are no eligibility restrictions for this course – it is open to any member of the public or professionals who would like to learn the first responder emergency care skills for both adult and child.
Method of course delivery
This is an in-person, face-to-face course.
You will learn how to:
- Assess the collapsed individual
- Provide basic airway management to make breathing easier
- Initiate and maintain effective breathing to maintain oxygen delivery to the person’s brain and other vital organs
- Initiate and maintain effective chest compressions, to support the work of the heart and supply blood to the body to sustain life to a person who is lifeless
- Apply the correct ratio of chest compressions to rescue breaths
- Place a person who is unconscious but breathing in the recovery position
